Photographer Killed by Train

Heard about this on the radio this morning. Very sad. *sigh*

I've done a shoot or two involving a live set of train tracks, though I wasn't shooting trains. Still, I made sure that I knew that that stretch of tracks is used only during certain hours, and on one day of the week, and said train went approx 20km/hr. Even so, I was continuously checking the sightlines in both directions.

OMG Sedalia is just north of me! This is the first I've heard of it. My brother works for the RR and he gives me hell if I go lay on a track somewhere... as well he should! The last time I laid down and shot down the tracks, I kept thinking what if my foot should be stuck under a tie.... and so haven't done it in a few years!!!

It seems that the rail companies take a dim view of the practice, even going so far as to have photographers either remove photos from publication, or to proceed with litigation.
The problem appears to be that by publicizing and popularizing the tracks as a photo prop, lends a social "OK" to it and leads to more people doing it.
If you read on down through "reason 5" you will see this practice in a different light.
