2) Because no other singular word encompasses so much in the english language, and we demand to know - that is our blessing and our curse.
3) Because it would rather walk 20 feet across, than walk an X mile hike to find where the road ends, walk around the dirt at the end, then walk back up X miles to the point 20' from where he started.

but we work so hard to differentiate ourselves from our southern neighbors. we even use strong language at the border. we tell people "welcome to Canada eh! be nice or you will have to go home, unless you file for residency and start to collect social assistance for the three years until we can process your application!" - we don't say 'please' anywhere in there ;p
