I'm planning.....(well not actually planning)a trip to the Ozarks at the end of the month. Just my dog and I and the great outdoors. I am not going to be camping the entire time so hotels will be in m future as well. I am looking for a few places to go and see. Good photography spots mainly. Towns to visit etc. Must be dog friendly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hawksbill Crag in Arkansas is a winner for sure. There are lots of hiking and camping opportunities along the Ozark Trail and surrounding parks. There's lots of caves, but I doubt you could take your dog on the tours.
Yea I took my last dog into devils den cave (near Fayetteville AR) She was fine until a bat swooped down and brushed her back. She tried to climb on top of my head
Check out Eureka Springs for small town photographic opportunities. Keep an eye on the forecast if you're camping a ways out from civilization, storms can blow in fast and furious around there. Driving in a lot of the backwoods areas can be hair raising, don't think you can automatically add 10 mph to the posted speeds, you'll end up in the ditch. If you can, call ahead to any campgrounds you think may hit, and see if a burn ban is on. It takes some of the fun out of it when you can't have a campfire.
Lake of the Ozarks area is nice (and huge) with tons of photo ops. Current River float trips (south out of Salem, Missouri) are nice - it's been years since I've been, but you could Google providers. Johnson's Shut Ins has some really interesting rock formations. Silver Dollar City and Shepherd of the Hills country used to be really nice, but they are awfully crowded these days. If you get into Southeastern Missouri, Lambert's is a fun place to eat.

I wont be doin any float trips...remember "dog friendly". I have been down the buffalo a dozen or more times and actually came close to dying when we wrapped a metal canoe around a rock..

We used to take the dogs with us on float trips all the time. Current River is pretty safe. If you get into Perry County (edge of the Ozarks) there is a really nice Iron Bridge and Burnt Mill on the Saline Creek.
You MUST MUST MUST stop at that hurrican cave... if you love adventure and want a true cave adventure, we had a blast there.. it was worth the money and you do get dirty :-)) I think they would be pet friendly as well.. there is a dog there though and he followed us through the caves..
They did have a really cool little waterfall there and the rock formations were just amazing.

It is on the other side of the ozarks and not sure about what part you plan on going to, but man we had a blast there, It was the best cave we have ever been in and around...I have been in a lot of caves but for the money it was the top

All kidding aside...Eureka Springs is very interesting...also Buffalo National River Park is an beautiful place to visit...we were there once in early spring when things were bare, so this time of the year should be wonderful...I'll be very curious to see your shots from this...wink
