I thought it was an interesting effect, although for me, since the penguins were quite recognizable, it became somewhat less of an "abstract" ... it was definitely different from the other entries. Thanks for posting the source image -- it makes it more interesting to see where the picture came from.
There are several threads currently active regarging this technique -- I suspect people's attention is divided.
