I'm placing 100 photos into a photoshop file to print out basically a class photo.
When I place a picture and resize it, the resizing options in the upper left hand corner are by percentage. Yet when I drag from the handles, it shows me the actual size of the photo (width and height in inches). I simply want to type in the desired width and height so I don't have to keep dragging the 100 photos to the right size, but I can't seem to find a place to do that.
Please can you help?

(I'm placing the photos by dragging them onto the composite. I believe that's the same as doing File->place)
I just go to image - image size- then there you can choose in the drop down percent or pixels make sure the lock is on both and
boxes are checked..
To get the desired hight and width, I do Image- canvas size, you can choose pixels, percents and have more options that way..
The trick is to know what size you need to place the image in the composite, & resize the image before you do that by typing in the numbers. Then just copy it to the clipboard. Open your composite image & past it in.
The ppi needs to match in both files. So if the composite image is 300ppi for printing, then each small image needs to match.
You can batch resize, but that doesn't take into account any cropping you might need to do of the originals. And of course there is software out there that does it all for you. But I kind of enjoy setting it up myself.

Drat. Sounds easier just resizing like I'm doing, then. It just seems silly that I can put in a percent scale and have it do it, but that I can't put in an actual size.
Sometimes I really don't like photoshop. I used to use aldus freehand, and it was so nice for moving, aligning, layout, etc. Used it mostly for technical drawings -- but I really miss some of it's features. :(
yup -- I've just been resizing in the composite and about 2/3s of the way done -- so switching methods sounded unfortunate, when it still seems like I should be able to just type it in in the composite. :)
So once I have them all in, do you have and recommendations on alignment? I'm doing it by grid right now, but the spacing between (horizontal) isn't equal to the spacing vertical. I assume I'm doing all those calculations by hand, as well, and doing it all manually...?
Older versions of PS have the menu item Edit > Transform > Numeric ... where you can enter the desired values in whatever units you want to modify the active layer/selection, but I don't know where that option is found in newer versions ...

Activate the Rulers, then place Guides, with "snap to" activated. Then, the edges of each individual will snap to the guides, aligning perfectly.
