I had to do a complete restore to factory setting on my main computer. Before doing so I went to best buy and purchased a HP 64Gb Flash Drive to back-up my data. After restoring my computer I started to reload my files and everything worked great for a day or two. Yesterday I went to reload the remainder of my files but when I click on the flash drive (J:) it states that the drive needs to be formatted.
I have downloaded several free USB Flash recovery software. Some don't find the files and some do. The ones that do are trial programs and will only show me the files but will not let me save. I need help in finding a USB Flash recovery software that will allow me to recover my files without having to pay. The files I need to recover are worth paying for, I just don't have the funds at this time. Any help would be grateful. I have some documents (EXCEL, WORD, PDF, TXT, etc.) that I need to recover.
do you have access to another PC that you can hook the USB drive to? or try a different USB port or a card reader that will take USB drives or something.

Yes. I tried it on another USB port on my computer and tried it on my wife's laptop. Both machines running windows 7. Same error.
If I click cancel it closes.
Try this one: it's supposed to be free and effective; they have a lot of other tools they charge for, this one's the bait, it just works on flash drives.

Thanks Robert but that one would not find the files I was looking for.
I have tried:
EaseUS Data Recovery: Does not find files.
Hetman_fat_Recovery: Finds files but charges to restore and save.
Pen-Drive: Does not find files.
I ask more because I might have a SanDisk RescuePro code hanging around in my basement... but it'll be a struggle to find it, and it's recommended to use Sandisk for Sandisk products specifically. Having said that, I HAVE had great luck using it on (only) Sandisk products thus far. If you're interested, I could try and look tomorrow after my coaches practice if I have some time.

I use PhotoRec and found it very good at recovering fies. User interface is command line based but is simple to follow. Might give it a try:
