Greetings DP!

I am working on my next challenge which I did in three bracketed HDR... For the fences.. However, I have a nasty halo and it doesn't seem no matter what HDR picture I do, I get those nasty highlighted halos around the main images...

I use Photomatix to process and combine my HDR photos and then I use lightroom 4 to finish it off to detail it..

I have searched for resolutions on how to get rid of them, but I must be doing this wrong LOLOL

If there is an easy peasy way to get rid of these pesky halos and if anyone knows these tricks please let me know, I am playing with it LOL

It's a by product of the tone mapping...use lighter settings, or better yet, use Exposure Fusion in Photomatix.

There's also a very good Lightroom plugin from Photomatix that combines bracketed exposures into a 32 bit depth image, then you can just use LR and do the adjustments for a very natural HDR. There are lots of different ways to approach natural looking HDR...just google it!

A couple of things that have helped me combat halos:

-Selective editing using layers. Applying the adjustments I need to the right areas and avoiding those where halos tend to appear.

-Nik Color Efex: Tonal contrast adjustment. This allows me to adjust the tonemapping for shadows, midtones and highlights separately from each other. Highlights are usually where the halos occur. This plugin also offers tools for selective application of adjustments.

HDR Efex Pro2, as a plugin for Apple's Aperture, produces far more natural results than Photomatix. At least HDR Efex Pro2 works best for me on my landscape images.
