This is extraordinary! I've never seen anything like it. Every avalanche I've ever seen, or seen film of, is like a thunderous, smashing, racing phenomenon, but this one is stately and inexorable. Watch the whole thing, it just grows and grows... Amazing...
Amazing and terrifying. The videographer did a good job of hanging in there. Avalanche risk is high in Colorado now, with heavy snow in the past few days and much warmer weather approaching.
Amazing catch of mother nature at work. Scary to think this will continue to happen.

This tiny hamlet is located circa 10 kilometers from Rabenstein, the village that should have hosted the Ice Climbing World Cup this weekend but, due to the high avalanche danger was cancelled by the organisers. What flows past the houses is an ice river in spate, unstoppable, but fortunately no one was harmed. A second avalanche ripped down a side valley, presumably on Thursday, and hit the famous Stettinerhütte / Rifugio Petrarca that, according to first reports, could be seriously damaged. At present another 20 - 50cm of snow are expected and with the road to Rabenstein officially closed to traffic, it's clear that these are difficult times in the Dolomites.
