I sent my camera to Nikon Italy (Nital) to have a new shutter mechanism. They changed it. First shots and I can see 3 dust spots (not exactly what you should expect after that). Moreover when I look into the viewfinder I can't see all the settings that are usually shown in the lower area of the internal screen. Is there a chance that this is a camera setting that I can enable (I already tried a reset, but nothing changed)? Otherwise it will be a matter of lawyers from now on...
I read somewhere that people sending in the D600's to Nikon for that problem were getting D610's as a replacement instead of a repair free of charge. You might want to look into that.

Thanks Kelly, I heard about that but never saw this article. Of course I will ask for a replacement considering the huge amount of problems I'm experiencing...
I have the oil problem in spades but I was waiting for them to REALLY recall the damn camera before I wasted time sending it in.
I read the same thing Kelly did...it's still off-the-books, and I hope they just issue a real recall. Though I may just send mine in anyway at this point.
As it is, I can only use this camera to F8 tops, usually 5.6 really. And it basically ruined all the shots on the first trip I took it on--to the Grand Canyon last April since I had tested that the 16-35mm Nikon is sharp through very small F stops...so I was maximizing DOF shooting F16 and F22.
I've heard of the same problem with D7100s, though knock on wood, mine seems fine. Sucks to have invested a fair chunk of $$ into such a body, then have this ridiculous problem keep cropping up.
The cameras are awesome, but if you shoot F11 and above, you will spend a lot of time cleaning spots. Or are you saying you are one of the lucky ones without oil?
I have the D7100 but I probably haven't hit the 5000 mark for that one if they have an oil problem! So far so good with that.
But then again, my D600 didn't have the problem until the middle of my Grand Canyon trip. Well basically after the first two days I think it was.

I called Nikon Italy and I complained about my problem. Later I sent a message PRETENDNG a new camera since I work with that camera and this is the third time I'll send it. Let's see what is going to happen.
Not sure about the 'E' model - I don't think all that sharpness is useful. It's always been like a strange idea for me. Video doesn't need that and without the filter the risk of moiré is higher.
I think when they say your camera is in perfect condition, they mean they cleaned it really well. It probably doesn't mean that they changed the shutter. If that's true, it may get dirty again.
