my 5d2 plus lenses is just too big to drag around. i want something smaller. im keeping the 5d2 but i want something that I can travel with and bring out and around.
i was thinking of a canon M but im sure i'll get frustrated with the AF. I'd prefer an ILC, i think...
requirements:
1. it must have an APS-C sensor or larger.
2. decent walk around zoom range for the FF equivalent of 24 to 70 or 100mm
3. good in low light (at least ISO 3200 with little noise) and/or at least be able to get a fast prime for it.
4. decent Autofocus speed and minimal shutter lag.
5. if i could mount my current lenses that would be a huge bonus.
6. easy to carry around or leave in my car.
7. weather proofing would be a bonus.
as i said im keeping my 5d2 for the heavy lifting when i need sharpness, speedlight control, etc. this is just something to bring along when i need to.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-200 is an awesome camera although it is probably smaller than what you are looking for. I mean, your wish list is a tough one. This camera is not a DSLR so you won't be getting any prime lenses for it. It does not do well at ISO3200 but most everything else that you want this camera has.
No surprise I'm sure, but I'd recommend the Fuji X100s.
I would second that in a heartbeat, I use my Fuji X100 all the time and my 20D/30D/7D see very little use these days and, no, I do not miss lugging them around.
Mike, I think you will struggle to come up with anything per your requirements. I see no point in looking for a smaller, more easily manageable camera then sticking a 17-40L on it.
I will stick with Fuji recommendations as I think they produce outstanding equipment.
Sounds like you're looking for a Canon SL1. It uses the same processor and sensor as the Rebel T5i, but in an even smaller body. You can get a refurb from Canon for $499.
Fuji is announcing a new x mount camera and zoom tomorrow. Both will be weather sealed and you can use your existing EOS lenses with an adapter.
X-T1 adapters Will be expensive though.
