For days, the little system tray icon at the bottom of my screen at home has been informing me: "New updates are ready for download." It's Service Pack 2.
I know there are tons of things in there that are important, but I've heard so many stories about programs not working after installing SP2.
I have uninstalled it, the performance was very much affected (AMD +1800); even pictures were jumping in the screen when rolling the bars.
I guess if You have a powerful machine You could go ahead, anyway the security added is available by other software vendors (Norton, Computer Associates, etc..) with no so high penalties (only some $)
I've installed XP SP 2 at home on my desktop, on my personal laptop and at work, on a desktop. I routinely use programs that use a lot of processor resources and RAM, and have yet to experience any problems. Moreover, I like that (after installing the patch) many security features are now part of the OS -- since the patch made these much needed features easier to manage (ie., firewall, virus programs, automatic download, pop-up blocker).
I installed SP2 2 days ago. Took about 15 mins (had the CD) and no problems. Security features 'seem' much better. Firewall runs during boot, which my other one doesn't and this is a really security issue as during booting there are a lot of 'open ports'.
Yup, quite happy with SP2 at the moment. Will let you know as soon as it looks like going tits up.
I installed SP2 about two weeks ago. I run McAfee Security Suite also and have had no problems. I'm not sure of the speed of things slowing down or not because I just upgraded my PC's motherboard and CPU and didn't have a guage on how fast the new hardware was before I installed SP2.

I installed it a couple days because when I ran Spybot I had some stuff that was there because of IE holes, so finding nothing else, I downloaded SP2. *shrugs* No problems yet.
It's insane how many Spyware programs can be added in a week of having a computer! We don't get nearly this many on our homeone and we've had that for 4 years (and the amount of spyware/adware on it was minimal considering how much we surf the web).

No problems here on the install!I had one old program that was causing a conflict(Vidx-for viewing compressed video). Deleted the program and everything is great!
