Can anyone confirm if Basic Editing would permit using a preset from a filter such as Topaz Adjust or Nik Efex Silver?
I am not sure how these filters work behind the scenes but I am hoping they are just clever batch jobs for processing that would be allowed under the Basic Editing rules.
I did send a message to SC a few days ago but have not had a reply so I am reaching out to the community for their opinion.
It is my understanding this kind of filters are not allowed, it doesn't preserve image integrity. But to be honest, I was hoping it was allowed, could use my Topaz Clarity as well.

You can definitely use these filters in basic, but use your common sense. For example, don't use the vignette tool, that's a certain DQ. Don't use the "control points" in Nik, those are local adjustments. If you use any of the presets as a starting point, you need to look at the right-side panel very carefully to make sure there are no local adjustments used in that preset: safer to start from neutral and do your own sliders.
Thanks Robert, that is a good idea to look at the right side panel to see what has been altered. I hadn't considered that the presets may have made local adjustments. Anyway great news just to know I can do some processing with these tools:)
What about the preset HDR "like" effect on Topaz detail?
You need to look at the panels on the right and see if all adjustments are global rather than local. If there are any local adjustments, zero them out. This applies to EVERY preset.
Me, I wouldn't USE a preset: I'd go in and move the "safe" sliders and see what I could get.
