FYI, this is supposed to auto-install. I noticed the google auto update thingy launch a few hours ago, but no install. If it doesn't auto install, you can re-download the collection from the link provided in your "sale" email and it will contain the newest piece of software.
Got it loaded. As a bonus, Nik now installs to Photoshop CC! I couldn't get it in before. Analog Efex is fascinating. I just slammed this one out:
Original; was a perfectly ordinary 5D3 FF shot of a tomato slice on a plastic lid, cropped square. I started with one of the "toy camera" presets and went to town from there :-) Basically, what this is doing is giving Nik a direct competitor for the Topaz Lens Effects plug-in.
Garry, there are different filters than Color Efex Pro, of course. Why would a company want to combine their tools into a single product, that would just be silly :)

Tools like this one are basically designed to bring Instagram and Snapseed-style processing into photoshop. They're for people who like a retro look, which is very popular right now.

Actually, Google/Nik isn't SELLING individual products anymore, just the bundle of all their products...
Oh, I know. But it's still a major pain in the ass to have to think about which plugin has this feature vs that feature. Maybe it's less of pain for photoshop users, but if Aperture or Lightroom is your main workflow engine, then it's incredibly annoying.
Never worked for me. Turns out the the new MacOS X (Mavericks) has some security feature where you have to go into the system preferences to allow Google Update to control your computer.
Instead, I just found the link in the email that Google/Nik sent me when Google took over, and re-downloaded. This contains the newest plugin and updates to all of the others that I had been missing.

Thanks a lot. I'm running Windows, but have probably ticked a box somewhere that is preventing updates, so I'll do the same.

Nothing automatic for me, either. Your advice was very helpful. Found the email from Google/Nik and re-downloaded. Worked well. Thanks! No destruction of presets or recipes in other plug-ins. Analog Pro looks interesting.
Fun stuff! Thank you for posting this, I would have missed the update otherwise, I think. It didn't update automatically for me either, but I downloaded the full trial version, reinstalled, and it remembered that I had paid for it before :)

Who is this marketed to? You can easily achieve the same effects in Photoshop without the plugins and if that's too slow for some there is always instagram and snapseed...

I finally found mine but got an "ExpiredToken" error. I've written them not so much to ask why the link doesn't work, or even how I can get the new filter, but to ask how there cannot be a better system for receiving updates than hunting down an old e-mail when you randomly hear about something. We'll see.

It's NOT "marketed" separately: Nik sells only the "collection" now, which is all their tools. This is an addition to the arsenal. And Snapseed IS a Nik app... In fact, Google bought Nik so they could own Snapseed and have a competitor to Instagram. So what they've done here basically is add Snapseed into the Nik package for those who process with big-boy tools, not tablets and phones.
Made my Snapseed-for-Windows obsolete, but I can't complain about that isnce it only cost me 9 bux and THIS one works from within Photoshop...

You have automatic update enabled on your Nik. It's the default installation. Nik'll take care of keeping you up to date with no intervention on your part. Assuming that's what you want. If not, you need to disable it. Exactly where that happens I'm not sure.

I wrote to them and here is the response that I received:
"Thank you for contacting Nik by Google. The Analog Efex Pro upgrade is free and supposed to be automatic as soon you have Nik Collection. The alternative update option of it is downloading and installing the trial version on top of your Nik Collection. This will install the updated pieces, including Analog Efex Pro. Please DO NOT UNINSTALL YOUR CURRENT VERSION first. If you do, then that means your installation of the trial version will install the trial version only. This is why you will need to install on top of your currently installed version."
You don't need the download link or use the automatic upload necessarily.
Same thing, Opened up some photos to mess with and WHAM ANALOG PRO just sitting there waiting for me, Soooooo Bear and Rest, How legal do you think this is gonna be?? I love the scratched plate stuff, Ya think that's legal????? Got one edited with it really grunge... Ya think those apps will pass Advanced editing?????
