I finally mustered up the courage to clean the sensor on my Canon 40D (spare one due to accidentally buying 2 on Ebay when my original one broke. This one was so dirty a buyer on Ebay sent it back to me for a refund)

Took 2 minutes using some digipads and fluid and the results look good to me. All I did was add a couple of drops to the digipad and set the camera to manual sensor cleaning mode - then a gentle swipe from left to right with one side of the digipad and the same again with the other side. Easy!!

Next task is to clean the view finder as it is really dirty too..

Your "after" shot lists an aperture of f/2.2. Your "before" shot doesn't list one at all.

At big apertures, the dust bunnies don't even show up.

To really check them out, I use a very small aperture, a plain wall, an off-focus setting plus I move the camera during the exposure so I don't actually focus on anything.

Not sure if much would show up on "f/2.2".

Eep that is worrying as have just sold it on eBay. I will do some further tests. Thanks for the heads up.

Stop down to f/22, manual focus as close as it will go, and point the lens at an empty area of sky to make the exposure. ANYTHING that's visible then, is on the sensor.

I remember in the past mention of a better system for sensor cleaning. what is it called, and the best prices on the materials.
