I am going to. Get another camera can not decide on what camera to get Nikon D300, D7000, D7100, or something else. Everything I read says the D7000 series has oil splatter on the sensor is this still a problem ? All comments and help will be appreciated I am leaning toward the 300 because of 7 FPS for shooting. Sports for the paper.
I'll step and say the D300 is a big step from the d200. Similar controls but way better ISO. However, I believe the newer cams are also noticeably improved. oil spots or no, if you are shooting sports you need ISO performance so I'd pursue that. With my D300 I don't tend to exceed iso 1600 unless I have to in order to keep images clean.
I shoot all sports on a high school level. I try not to go over 1200 iso because of grain i use a flash for football and basketball. With that said i am more concerened about the frames per second than ISO. The oil problem with the 7000 series concerns me because i also do wedding and do not want to have to do alot of photo shop work to remove spots. Thanks for your comments.
I use my D300s for inside sports without flash...my secret weapon though; Nikon's 85mm f/1.4. Just an incredible lens. I have the older version, bought it when it was the only choice. You could probably get a good deal on one if its still available. It's my favorite lens.
If you're comfortable with shooting at ISO 1200 on a D200 you'd be nicely served by the D300 then. You'd be able to up the ISO with no decrease in result and also get faster frames per second for a pretty good price. If you want the highest (8fps) get a grip for it. I always run a grip on mine, largely for balance issues (notably for the 28-70), and it's a great product.
ETA: You might consider a D700 as well, though as a full frame it will decrease your reach. On the other hand, it will perform better in low light by a large margin.
