Hi. How do you correct this issue, without processing? I want to fix this in-camera/at time of shot.

I'm photographing students wearing white (martial arts uniforms), whether outdoors using direct flash for fill or indoors with a bounce flash, the belt colors, background, mats, etc. are all as they should (once correct white balance is applied), but the uniforms are reflecting back a slight blue tint. It seems as though because of the white, the flash color is being reflected back more than anything else around.

Have you gelled your flash? The camera may be reading the white balance of the ambient lights, which are possibly a warmer color than the flash. MAybe just 1/4 CTO would do it.

I'm shooting RAW so I can adjust white balance. In fact, when shooting indoors white balance is a very tough problem. The studio uses fluorescent lights. The problem also happens outdoors (bright sun or clouds, doesn't matter).

Besides, if I shot with a gel, would that not offset the rest of the colors?

so the whites are appearing blue?

1. gel the flash with a very slight CTO?

3. if you are shooting jpeg an you pick a warmer tone or somehow set the blue back a bit?

if you are shooting raw you may as well do it in post. gel the flash to match your light, either for florescent or slight CTO for sunlight

What is the CTO going to do to the rest of the colors? Or, should I just use the lightest one just to help offset the blue?

I suppose experimentation is the only way....

ETA: Hmm...simulation of it in photoshop cleared it right up....but still depends on the white balance set.
