Hmm, now I thought I had it bad here in Mid-MO..:) Sujestion: Make a lot of road trips to the Denver area and or become really great at in house "studio" shots....However, here you go, just think about your landacape(s) that you have to use and perhaps it will bring out more of creativity to your photo experience...which is a good thing.
I'll be in Lamar next week. My work area is from the wee headwaters of the Arkansas River near Leadville to the Kansas border e. of Holly; s. to New Mexico; and all of the Rio Grande watershed in Colorado. So, I get around most of southern Colorado.
Western Kansas isnt flat! You have Monument Rocks, Cedar Bluff State Park (and a number of other state parks), Cheyenne Bottoms/Quivira NWR which is more in the middle. It depends on how far you want to travel. I drove through last week on my way to Colorado for a camping trip.
I am mainly around the Northern part of CO. End up out in NE CO alot (grew up in Yuma, and my mother is still there). Like to drift out to SW CO and into UT down by Blanding,UT.
There is lots of wildlife out there on the plains. Just finding them is the hard part. Not to mention weather.

yea we do have a few things out here. Monument Rock might be my submission for travel guide. Haven't decided. It's only 45 miles from my house. I would love to get some cloud pictures, but here in Garden City, the rain seems to split and go around us. Don't know why, but it also means that the hail and tornados stay away and that's not all bad!
