3rd party drivers do this sometimes, but it's so card specific that I figured it'd be easier to virtualize the machine instead.
Of course, he's still likely to run into issues, but theoretically it should work fine as long as he has sufficient RAM and Processor to handle it - XP would be a good choice if the Canon software is compatible with that.
