My newest toy arrived in the mail today. A nice shiny Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4.0 AT-X Pro DX II.
I need to plan my purchases better as I can't get out and play with it until this weekend! Boo! I was so hoping it would arrive Saturday so I could get out to the lake to play.
Anyway had to share my excitement (I wonder if I can have a sick day this week?), pics to follow as soon as I am able.
P.S. Any book or tutorial recommendations on learning how to use this thing properly appreciated. :)

All my readings say it is a very sharp lens. Only reason that's keeping me from seriously considering it is that if I want a UWA lens, I want wide. Feel short-changed with 12mm vs 10mm :)

Can someone explain to me why people seem to hate Ken Rockwell? He's got a cheezy looking website I'll give you that much.
It's because the Gospel he preaches ranges all over the map from the superficial to the complex, and from the inanely irrelevant to the eminently practical, and he doesn't seem to know the difference. His opinion of himself is somewhat inflated, most serious photographers seem to think. Me, I'm just a spectator...

One of my favorite lenses on DX. Not horrible on FX, either. I still have a copy, even though I don't shoot DX anymore.
Rockwell? Fool. Or genius. Or whatever. Actually, 90% of what he writes is right on. It's the other 10% that's foolish, and since his site is aimed towards people who can't tell the difference, my opinion is that he's a dangerous fool.
I've finally sorted through 3500 pictures from my Alaskan vacation. I paired it down to about 130. It was really hard to figure out which ones I took with my wide angle but with a little guidance from Kirbic and GeneralE I found a couple of them. It's quite challenging to properly compose a wide angle shot. I can't tell you the number of times I crouched too low and messed up my view by trying to get the foreground included. My husband just leaned against whatever was near by and shook his head at me.

I like it. :) I promised a bunch of folks I'd get my set uploaded to Flickr so that they can live vicariously through me. Now that that's accomplished I'm going to play and go for the painted more surreal looks. Lots to learn in that area too and I need to practice for TPL 2.
