I just received some new metal prints that will be part of a commercial installation. The Art Consultant had me order these from a different source than I have mostly gone to in the past for metal prints. These are kind of interesting and I see some advantages over traditional metal prints (similar price), so thought I would share.
These came from a printer in Seattle called Bumblejax. They do a lot of "facemounting" of prints to especially 1/4" acrylic, metal like these, and also 3/4" bamboo panels. So traditional paper prints are bonded to a panel and then a matte cover is adhered over the print. Not quite the "pop" you get from a glossy metal print, but the lack of glare could be an advantage for some spaces. These are much stiffer than traditional metal prints with their being twice as thick. Mine were done at 24"X36" so they used a di-bond panel with composite sandwiched in between thin sheets of aluminum (smaller sizes are solid aluminum). They are stiff and very flat. I am having two 40"x50" metal prints from a recent install redone due to slight bends in the panels happening in the shipping or application of the floats. These seem much safer for large images. Their float mounts are kind of cool too and it will be easy to install security hardware on them.
