my tutor has set out class a essay on photography, but we have to come up with whatever we like. i think he wants a bit of philosophical question where i could use examples of philosophers.
I really can't think of a topic.
I want to do something quite current so that i stay interested in the essay! Any suggestions? :)
I had to do this recently, I chose to do mine on Mark Seliger, wo was a staff photographer for Rolling Stone, and how he deals with the subject of identity.
There's always the ethics of news vs sensationalism -- like the guy who photographed the person who was pushed onto the subway tracks. He claimed that there was no time to help and that he actually was using his flash to try to signal the train. Other people were horrified that he was taking pictures. Then the whole debate about whether the pictures should have been published.
Or here's another idea-
The Romanticized Landscape- HDR and the direction it drives us. (I just made that up, but it's something I've thought about).
Or do you mean legitimately drawing from traditional philosphers as subject matter and how it may or may not apply to photography?
Of course, "dusty" joined JUST to pose this question, so who knows if s/he is even paying attention now?
Well Dusty was on online when I posted but now it is very philosophical... If a tree in a forest falls over and there isn't a photographer to get the shot... Did it really happen?
