Yes, I like a lot photos on that site. I'd like to do some work without the time and rules constraints and see if that could take my photography into a different direction.

oh it definitely would no question if you stay stuck doing DPC you will actually go backwards not forwards with your art form no matter what it is because you will conform if you havent already to what DPC think is a good photo or artistic or both and you will see you will suffer long term from the very thing that was initially a good thing, art is about moving forward and unfrotunately whether people like to hear it or not, DPC does not move forward its very predictably boring mostly, with the odd flash of great every now and then... i know i will be disliked for saying it but its the truth!
so go forth and learn more from elsewhere ;O) come back to enter occasionally and do yourself a big service and enjoy breaking from the DPC mould ;o)
You can just join up as a basic member for free with limitations. There are thematic competitions with cash prizes but they charge entry. There are a lot of other groups that you can join or be invited to contribute. It is well worth joining.

Art Limited is an Art site, we only want very different, strong, original, extraordinary and unusual artworks
Oh dear.
In spite of that a lot of images are very repetitious, especially in landscapes. Still, they are all better than what I take at the moment so joining would be a great motivator for me. No time and editing restrictions make it much more interesting as well.
It's interesting that they ask you to state why you want to join & what is your artistic statement. And they seem to expect that you will already have a portfolio online.

I find that an amusing statement from someone who has been using the site less than a year.
The primary point is valid, that the prevalent aesthetic on this site may limit your creative growth if you obsess over your score, but it is no more true than if you want to be popular at 1x or ArtLimited. Once you have entered a collective there are only two options, conformity or rebellion, and there is a very healthy group of the latter here. I do not find that the case at the other two sites mentioned.

I've been a basic member since Dec 2011. I probably got in before the rush. They immediately screen your submission for dimension and suitability (that very minute) and give you a quality 'fringe alert' or re-size. The re-size is automatic, usually you can ignore the fringe alert but it does make you reconsider the submission, so they want artistic expression as a focus. I haven't been on the forum, in general communication is very civil and delivered with brevity. It takes a while to adjust to the way the site works, but it is very well thought out and courteous.
As long as we're combining sports, note that gymnasts use a springboard to get on their high horse ... ;-)
I often end up on my high horse, but never need a springboard. Gymnasts use a spring board on a vault horse, or a high bar, but not a high horse.
OK, if we're gonna get picky, the women use the spingboard on the uneven parallel bars; only the men compete on the high bar, and I'm pretty sure they start from a dead stop, just hanging there, like on the rings, but I admit I haven't watched gymnastics in a long time ....

Actually women use the springboard to vault as well; depends on the vault they are attempting, I think.
"A springboard is a platform set upon one or usually multiple springs used in artistic gymnastics to propel a gymnast who jumps upon it further than if they had otherwise jumped off a fixed platform. The springboard is a vital part of the vault event, and is commonly used in some routines of other events, such as the balance beam, or uneven bars, to start the event by springing onto the apparatus."
And just to beat this horse to death, the uneven parallel bars used to not use a springdoard when they used to only start from the mat and grab the lowbar to begin, but now the convention is to take a jump from the springboard to the high bar far more instant drama and no working up to reach enough speed to cross to the highbar, where you need the springboard to start from.
