So I am pretty sure I saw in this forum a while back someone had posted a DIY remedy for tightening the zoom on the Canon 24-105 F4L lens so that it doesn't inadvertently zoom in when you point the lens downward. I can't find this post in a search so I am hoping someone will speak up.
My copy of this lens has done this drifting from day one (not sure if it has gotten worse over time) and it really hasn't bothered me that much in the past. However, I recently practiced doing event shooting with the camera in one hand and an off-shoe speedlight held up high in the other (on a sling). This is a nice mobile method for getting your light source away from the camera, but one handed shooting is hard enough without having a zoom that moves every time your camera is tilted downward!
So for the above reason I would really like to take care of this drift issue if a I can. Anybody?
