When I look at the photo's on 1x they make me sigh!!!
They almost all have that look about them, you know what I mean, a matte finish to them, and I'm really attracted to it, what is their secret can anyone help. I've asked a few of them, but they are mainly of European background, and all they say is 'they did it in PS' I think they don't want to give me their secrets lol!!
It's probably a plugin filter. Can't tell you for sure if it's EFEX or Topaz, etc. You can see a great deal of dodge and burn in the midtones on the first two. That might be the filter or manually done.

I was just waiting to see how long I could go on for, you spoilt my fun. Ok will be back soon have to prepare a meal first!
Well my secret recipe, involves, importing the photo into color effex pro, and then using the cross processing filter, and then sliding the shadow slider to the right, that gives it the hazy, matte look, also using the highlights slider to the right, to touch up.
Very simple but effective, I tried it on this photo
Actually Clive I think you have this down pat more than anyone else on here, esp with this photo
I think with that image it is mostly the sea haze/mist doing the work. I did desaturate though and, i think, added some clarity to the bottom quarter of the shot.
I think you're on the right track with your colour fx pro route. I often use the cross processing filters there. I also tend to use Glow, which i like a lot (sometimes too much).
