A cycling forum I am on does this with a box of bicycle parts & accessories and I thought it might be fun to do it here as well, but with Photography items, natch. If there is enough interest, I will start the box. I know I have plenty of stuff I bought and haven't used.
The idea is to fill a large USPS flat rate box with items that you don't want but may be of value to someone else. It can be anything photography related. Brand specific is ok, because at some point the box will arrive in the hands of someone else with that make. It will take a few stops for the box to get full, so until then, participants are asked to add more than they take.
Due to the use of US Postal service flat rate boxes, we have to limit this to people within the USA. Sorry Canadians, but there's no reason you can't start up your own BOC.
Rules (this is important):
1. If you can't abide by the rules, please don't play
2. Ship within 5 working days of receipt of box (if you're on the list, you should have some crap ready to be put into the box - right?)
3. Remove only crap you intend to use yourself
4. Do not remove crap to sell to somebody else
5. Do not remove crap to pass to somebody else
6. Try to put in as much or more crap than you remove
7. If you add crap specific to a make and/or model of camera, please mark it as to what it works with.
8. Report receipt via this thread upon receipt (same day shouldn't be to difficult - we're all addicted to this forum and most post daily. Don't suddenly disappear once the box makes it to you)
9. Photograph the box contents as received (not a completely-revealing photo - just the box open and the crap on the top of the pile) and post (this thread is worthless without pics and all that...)
10. Photograph what you took out, but not what you put in - it's supposed to be somewhat of a surprise.
11. Please, no completely worthless, borked crap.
12.The BOX OF CRAP is a CRAPSHOOT and you may not like the CRAP in the BOX. There may be absolutely nothing in the box of any value to you. Even if this is the case, you will still be expected to spend $16 to mail the BOX OF CRAP on to the next person. If you aren't ok with that, don't play the game; it's that simple, really.
13. When you recieve the box, PM the next person on the list for their mailing address.
14. Note: if you no longer want to be on the mailing list, please let me know and I will remove you. This is important so as not to hold up the box while someone is trying to PM you for your mailing address.
Aw crap I live in Canada and have already gotten rid of my crappy cameras and most crappy camera junk...but I sure would have had fun riffling through a box of other peeps discards. CRAP!
If everyone puts in more than they take out, eventually it won't fit in the box ...
Then you make a judgement as to what to keep in or how much to add. Since I am starting the box, I'll also want it to eventually make a loop back so I can get some crap.
There is no end, unless everyone loses interest. Otherwise it's just an ongoing long distance swap meet.
Put some nice craps in a box last night. Will probably find a few more items over the next few days. Not enough to stuff it to capacity, but a good start. I'll add my name to the list again after we get a few more people, so that I have some crap to pick from as well.
I'll be out of this thread for a few days as I created it in a member area and my membership expires tonight. I'll renew when I get paid later this week.
Bear should be getting his box of crap sometime this week.
