other things such as the 30 second challenge have stated that images will be DQ'd based on not meeting the criteria (possible to tell with exif data there) but here i think it was just aimed at being creative and not just a free study of anything and saying "see, there's a left foot in this picture.... waaaaaaaaaaay down here in the horizon is a man walking, he has a left foot, therefore i'm not dnmc"
if it's your own (supposedly) you're more intimate with the photo subject; if it's someone elses and the foot is a major component of the image then i say let it be.
IMO it was just a way to write a description and nothing more.
I guess Langdon needs to start putting little Ms and Ls after descriptions to let us know which are literal and which are metaphorical.
Using the word "your" is pretty definitive. No wiggle room there. I know myself and some others adhered to this, and by doing so, made it much more difficult. I'd feel cheated knowing someone ignores the definitive qualifier. But this is DPC, I know it's going to happen, and people will simply dismiss the dissenters by saying they have sour grapes.
i've been a member of the literal faction on MANY many entries, to the point sometimes that it has hurt the score.
i agree with you on the 'your foot' line, but as long as the majority of the image is the foot, it's something interesting and planned and could quite easily be the photog's foot using a remote or timer, i'm going to vote as if it's the photog's foot.
Only a smidgen more difficult using your own foot... I'd assume most of us have tripods and wireless remotes... I shot my silhouette at night shot all by my lonesome, and with that I had to deal with light alignment and other spatial issues...

Probably you are right, I only thought that a too literal interpretation was not so important. But don't worry, there won't be any female foot in my image :)

Naw... it doesn't say take a picture of a naked foot. Socks, shoes, tights, naked, it's still a foot. Whatever. But it does say take "your" foot. Not take a picture of "a" left foot.
To ignore that part, takes away the difficulty and the fun of the challenge, imo. I had difficulties with this that I never anticipated. It would have been much, much, easier using a foot model.
Some challenges are open for interpretation, but this one seemed pretty straight forward.

There can be a female foot...as long as it is accompanied by your left foot :)
I am going to vote with my eyes mostly closed in anticipation of all the horror of broken nails, wrinkles, dirt etc And make sure I am not eating anything at a time! :/
Expecting a rather ghastly experience.
My entry is in and I was thinking of pulling it becauseI think it might get stepped on by all of the other left feet!!! So my daughter asks me if I like it and I do so she says "who cares about your score and where it finishes just leave it in!" So I'm leaving it in! :)
