Wah! Opened the battery door on my Lumix LX3 and it broke. There's a wee bit of plastic where it hinges but not much. Anyone else have this happen? Any idea what can be done? :(
Hope it gets well fast. Meanwhile one of those broccoli rubber bands should be able to secure it shut. Works on a Canon PS. And a watchmaker person, if there are any left, should be able to fiddle the old door off and the new door on.
So... rubber bands might not work well as they'd go over the shutter button and on/off switch. Tape still is an option but not one of choice, as I'd have to repeatedly remove and replace it to get to the card. But it is cheaper than sending for repair, which is $161.50 plus tax and shipping, and results in getting a refurbished LX3, not MY LX3, in return. I'm not fond of that idea. I suppose I could buy a new LX, but that seems to be a waste of a perfectly good camera with a bad battery door.
Will try ordering a battery door. Found one (1) post, where a guy says he loosened four screws enough to let the latch thingie slip out of the casing and put the new one in. Better option than sending mine back, and if I ruin it, THEN I'll do the exchange thing, yes? :-)
If it is just the plastic on the door that broke Deb, give superglue (cyanoacrylate cement) a try. It won't help much bonding metal. but the stuff is pretty tenacious with plastic.
I would definitely order the replacement door. I wouldn't be surprised if a local repair shop could do the installation,if not also order the door. Ask. Meanwhile use one broccoli rubber band - you know those fat blue things that grocers use to hold the stalks together. I just tried one on my LX3, routing it between the shutter button and the dial. Repair option surely insults all that is thrifty. On the other hand, I read that the LX7 is a lovely thing, enticing all that is extravagant.
True story, got on an elevator and this guy started telling us his belt had broken and he had used a hay bail tie to hold his pants up, perhaps some of you know him.....hahahaha
