Read an article last night about how many bald eagles are roosting in our area this year. There are usually a few around, but they were so few and far between that it was kind of a big deal to see one.
Apparently there are somewhere between 400 and 1000 roosting in a stretch along the main river that's about 30 miles long. At one of the nature areas about 25 minutes from my house there are dozens at a time in just a small area.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get there soon.
Awesome stuff! Another great location for eagles a bit south of you in the winter is the Illinois River near Utica and Ottawa. Starved Rock State Park and the bluffs along the river near the locks are always full eagles 'wintering' in the open water. In the past few years, I have seen groups over more than 20-30 within a quarter mile stretch.
It's painful to go over the 520 bridge in Seattle, and seeing a bald eagle that is often on top of one of the light posts!! Having a camera and not being able to take a photo when crossing kills me. :-)
That's what I thought this thread was about and said, "Oh thank god..." I was really looking forward to putting my homework off awhile longer. Maybe they'll be back by midterms... :)

Yeah, I didn't get out there this visit as I didn't have my camera, but a couple have constructed a massive nest in Oglesby just up the hill from the bridge to Peru. You could practically reach out and touch them.
