i was just fooling around outside trying to get some light reflecting off wet surfaces. using a 5d2 and a 50/1.4.
i was using live view and manual focus. i could see right where my focused area was a completely horizontal dark tinted line, this line moved and stayed in the focused area as a turned the ring. when i pulled the pics up on my pc i get this.
see the horizontal purple line?. i have never seen this before, i'm assuming its just CA an not to worry about it? its easily removed from these images in lightroom using the CA removal.
The water film's like a prism. At a certain angle to the light, that's happening. Especially if that's a road; they all have films of oil on them that will do something like this. I don't think it's camera-related at all.

its my driveway. i figured it wasn't the camera since i could see the line move as i focused. good to know the reason behind it. thanks.
It's a variety of CA. It is often observed when fast lenses are shot wide open, or nearly so, under these conditions. Lots of folks, including myself for a time, tried to chalk it up to sensor "blooming" but that is not the case.
