Well, since  snaffles III hasn't shown up yet, I'll say howdy. You can use the Private Message feature on your home page to contact snaffles - or at least who the site manager thinks is snaffles.
May I also suggest checking out the side challenges in the forums. There is usually several going on all the time, and it is a great way to learn, and get to know folks. A bit less formal than the challenges...
As to that cult thing. Don't worry. Nothing to it. Trust us... ;-p
