A while back I looked at the Canon Service website to see if I could get a quote on fixing/replacing the view screen on my 5D but it seems like all I could do was mail it in to be fixed, is there a way I could get just a quote from them? It's just got scratches and I wonder if it's even just a outer coating or film that could be replaced and I would like to know what it needs before I decide how bad I want this fixed.

I found some others who had done it as well but that seemed to have the best explanation. Take some disassembled pics and post them!

I sure will! I contacted Canon parts center today and all tolled it will only be about $30-$35 to replace the screen, not bad at all. Maybe I can even get the culprit responsible to pay for it, not mentioning any names COUGH ScooterMcNuttyCOUGH

This is good to know as my 5d mk1 screen is scratch to sh1t from a long hike I didn't realise a button on my jacket had a sharp nik and the screen was rubbing on that, mate has a 50d with a cracked screen as well
