In Advanced Art, I have to do a project where I take 10 photos. The theme is metamorphosis, so, the 10 photos have to be of something morphing. If anyone has an idea of what I can do for this, suggestions THANK YOU in advance because I am stuck. Also, I can use photoshop to help something morph a little bit, but not too much.
Approx. 4 weeks, maybe a little less. The rest of the class has to do a "Name Metamorphosis" with drawing. i.e. The name "DAN" morphed into a screaming brick wall. I gave my teacher the idea of morphing a small tree into a large tree (by using camera angle), but she said that was too easy. She told me I could morph a person into a tree, but I have absolutely no idea how I would do that and she isn't a photography teacher, she is an artist, so I can't ask her how to do it.
I would go to the junk yard and find the most commonly junked out vehicle there. You can act like you're looking for parts. Then go around to other junk yards and find the same model car in a less junky state. Then go to used car lots and find the same car totally used. Then go to a car show and try to find the same model completely tricked out. Just an idea from a car nut.
That would be really cool, I am a car nut myself. The problem is, I live in a small town (approx 11k people), so there is only one maybe two junkyards and no car shows around here. Once a year there is a lowrider show and then there is the early iron festival, but they already passed. Thanks for the idea though.
what about a series of 10 photos of people from baby to adult? You could probably find 10 people (use all your relatives and friends..that's what they're for) and maybe have them dressed in a similar fashion? I'm reaching here, I know...but it's an idea... ;o)
what if you showed 10 close-up pictures of a flower dying, (taken over a few days, of the same flower but different parts, starting with it alive obviously) then collage them so the flower progressivly dies? Like It's beautiful at the top, then leaves are wilted, stem is dried, till you get to the bottom and it's all over?
I can use photoshop, but if I can, I want to stay away from completely chopping it. If I can get a good enough idea, I will use photoshop to do anything though, it is absolutely not limited.

Try a series of photos showing ingredients in a recipe being combined and processed into a finished dish/meal....
This would not involve 10 different images as steps in a metamorphosis, but you could take 10 images and morph from one to the next. You can also take 2 images and extract 8 intermediate images, giving you 10 total steps.
Hmmmm, how about a pencil. A pencil that is being used over time ( it fades away by sharpening it)...with many different backgrounds such as school, home, park, any where else. Shows that this pencil is being used everywhere for what? A journal about yourself and how you see things around you...kinda like photo essay...name each photo according to your thoughts in each journal entry. Hmmm, important to have pencil in focus as well keeping the background noticeable as well, so the viewer my know where you are, and know that the progression is happening over time and with the use of lighting as well...a photography trick you can learn with different f-stops and lighting....may teach your teacher a few things...it would help if I could draw out some thumbnail sketches for ya...hope you got the point.
This certainly will take longer than 4 weeks and it may be harder to create..However, just a run by of a long term project...Picture, if you will, a street front 3-4 blocks long with buildings, trees, people, typical right? Well, as the season change so does the whole street front does as it begins in Summer fading to Fall (with much details with the trees turning and leafs falling to bare trees), and then on to Winter (snow falling, snow, and snow melting) then on to Spring (with rain and first signs of green and flowers) then on back to Summer..This shot would have to be done with multitudes of shots...lot's of math and a huge printer...I imagine a 3'x 8' print...not there there yet..something I have been wondering about doing myself. In progress with research with this project...location(s), camera set up, location markers (to return to that same spot for each progression shot), timing, (time of day and calculate the sun movements) so the image is fairly seen as "one" shot with shadows ect... hmmmm, when to shoot, most likely on a Sunday when less traffic and people are out) want to have the whole shot look consistent with even people and cars etc. Non-fixed objects are going to be hard to work with....well, I'm done...
Gee Dustin...that's deep. And it would certainly make for a very cool project. So there's more to you than a drunken fair-goer chasing college girls after all... who knew? ;o)
A big boo to your teacher from me... why are they telling you what you can and cannot do? It should be your job to finish the project how you see fit and their job to grade it. There is no such thing as something "easy." To do something easy really well is always much harder than doing something hard really well. The only thing that matters is the final project. It sounds to me like they want a lot of photoshopping if they want people morphing into trees. I mean, come-on, how unoriginal is that idea and how does it relate at all to real life. Your teaching much be one of those art loving hippies :) It should prepare you well for the fairytale challenge. Good luck to you.

LOL, (grinning)....a photo isn't always protray what the viewer sees...there is more to the image than just pixels....there are thoughts, feelings, emotions...a human being sits behind this camera, forever captureing Life. Captureing my thoughts, my feelings and emotions for the world to see and share and share alike.
Just wrote it off hand....I'm no poet, better at photo taking...:) Yet, still humble in my craft.

Also, I believe his art teacher is wanting his students go beyond their level and create something much bigger and overcome some problem solving issue regarding things that progress...so, a "easy" project may be judged accordingly...If I was the teacher, I would want my students in an "advance Art" class...to come up with some tougher ideas and theories to complete something that took thoughts, emotions and feelings into a final piece of art work. Just like a single photo does to most of us here.

Everyone needs to read this because it is right on the money. The class is "Advanced Art." The reason I am in there is so that I can do photography projects, it isn't a photography class. I wanted to do an individual study art, so I could do my own photography, but she didn't want I.S. kids this year. A good example of what to look for in an idea is "something morphing into something it isn't." i.e. person to tree, lake to mountain, pencil to snake. The rest of the class will draw their morphs and it starts with their name, then it morphs into anything. i.e. Dan to brick wall with a face popping out of it, Anthony to a fighter jet... The list goes on and I am going to have to use a lot of photoshop.
if you have 4 weeks i would just completely loosen up. walk around town. look at everything but where you're going. just drift :) follow in the footsteps of the situationists and their "dérive"
