Not sure about the stars thing, but I just realized why the dates were wrong (as i did shoot everything within the challenge dates). As I wanted to shoot and enter challenges while on my 6-week Australian trip, I changed the time and date to local time so I didn't have to stress over time zone issues. And, of course, forgot to turn it back to local time when I got home...

Anyway, do DPC rules even cover date settings in the event that time travel becomes a reality?
No, but so far a practical method of time-travel has proved even more elusive than a DPC rules update. Besides, if way is ever found, we can just send Langdon back to make the necessary rules changes "in advance" ... ;-)

Plus it takes you coordinates via gps and sends them via wifi to the NSA, including whatever you're shooting ;)

Same thing happened to me. Then again, considering my limited abilities, it isn't like I was going to come anywhere near the ribbon zone. :O)
Personally, I am more interested in a discussion about why or why not the stars in the image would have gotten it DQ'd (regardless of the date). I assume she took a photo of stars on a computer monitor? That's been done and been legal before - even in Advanced, I believe.

You can't use somebody else's work as a major component of your image in expert, only as a texture. Doesn't matter if you downloaded it or did a screen capture. It's by definition "clip art" basically. That's my take on it. Otherwise we'd all go find cool birds and majestic mountains to jazz up our images, see? We gotta make that stuff ourselves.

Interestingly, I had to create a "star field" for my entry to that challenge as well ... I've found that by shooting a dark subject (like the night sky) at a high ISO setting, I can accentuate the noise with extreme Curves and over-sharpening to at least give the impression of a starry sky ... this was made from a single shot which intially only showed only the one bright star (probably Jupiter, actually) the camera could pick up at that exposure.
