Personally, I'm happy to take a back seat to the "real" photogs who still screw with film, never shoot color, and think that digital isn't ever going to be what they know.
I have much more fun, am able because of the digital processing to create the actual image that I visualize, and I don't pollute the environment with dangerous chemical waste.
there is a fantastic photographer Thomas Barbey, I go to his shop every time I'm in Maui. He has some awesome manipulated images and he does it all in the dark room, puts many a PS guru to shame with his work
manipulation of light is what photography is all about. keeping true to whats in memory of the scene is in my mind a worthy pursuit, but it is not achieved by avoiding all manipulation and it certainly not the only path in photography. I enjoy recreating from memory and i enjoy creating from the imagination. I hope in time, more people see things with a bit more tolerance, but i m not particularly dismayed by the more restrictive school of thought.

Can you or would you... I believe you can, but you wouldn't want to. I know at least one person has tasted it. Did not specify pre or post, but was very clear on the vileness of the taste.

Well, that depends. Certainly you will be well prepped for a colonoscopy the next day, but if you use potassium bromide rather than table salt you may sleep, or seize, through your spelunking appointment.
