I apologize if I missed an existing thread about this, but I wanted to warn you.
I just installed an Adobe Flash update, and found that I was suddenly the not at all proud owner of a McAfee Security program.
Yes, you are right, I should have carefully read and examined boxes, and I normally do that. However, I did NOT expect Adobe to push stuff onto my computer in such a sneaky way. I am very disappointed with them.
Any ideas who I should yell at over this? I bet some general Adobe email address would get me nowhere.
If I understand you correctly Karin the Flash Update ended up installing security software you didn't want because you maybe didn't un-tick an installation box? I hate it when they make the default something as intrusive as that. I don't mess with Windows much anymore, but I am thinking you could just roll back to a point in system restore to get rid of that garbage and then re-install the Flash update- carefully :P
Like I said, I understand that this is very common. You ask for one thing, and if you're not careful you get five others with it that you did NOT ask for.
I do normally check carefully, but I haven't had this happen with Adobe before, and I am disappointed that they have now adopted the same shonky, sneaky pushing practices as the rest of them.
I think it un-installed ok, but I still hate the idea.
P.S. I still want to "yell"..... if more people properly complained about things, it would make a difference. I don't think we should always just put up with whatever they decide to do to us.
Given enough pro-active customers, they would change their practices quickly enough.
Yep, pisses me off no end. I can understand it if it's unchecked by default, but it is not. I got "Asked" once for not paying attention, and nearly got the McAfee program the first time Adobe pulled that. Not used to Adobe stooping that low.

If you already have anti-virus software installed, there will be conflicts. And eventually you'll have to pay for McAfee to keep using it.

This software-add-on nonsense seems to be common with Windows-based installers. I run WIndows 7 as a VM on my Macs and see this all the time when installing Windows-only software to review. Never see it on the Mac side though.
This is the page I got for updating Flash. It's definitely an option to download McAfee on Firefox.
That's not even the anti-virus software, that's just a "security" scan. It'll find various things and prompt you to buy their products to get rid of them.

AKA nagware — I find it so annoying I'd almost rather have a virus, which I can at least get rid of ...
