Wow - I've placed my 223 votes (actually I voted on a couple of that have been dq'ed as well I notice) and managed to place 63 comments so far. Hopefully I'll be able to place some more comments just before the challenge ends (it ends 4pm Monday local time for myself).

I must say there are a few stunning photo's in there and I guess working in the field adds challenges and eleminates some of the bonus of having lots of studio equipment.

I just wanted to say well done to all those which I haven't commented on yet. I'm also looking forward to see where I place in my first challenge, and I'm keen as mustard for my indepth critique... I think the photo is ok technically but a very boring subject - it will be interesting to see if others agree.

Now I'd better go prepare for my Road Signs entry.

Just one thing ... landscape are very nice but I am not sure about 'bonus of having a lot of studio equipment'.
My 'Negative space' entry was done in a hotel room, travelling, regular hotel room light, using some levels adjustment.
My 'Four' entry use two 9.99$ lamp
True ... they did not reach the top ten .. but my point is that a nice (not saying mine are top nice !) macro or indoor shot does not mean a lot of expensive equipment but just a good use of what you have.
The 'garbage' winner if I remember well was not using expensive equipment but just .. iamgination and creativity.

Just do not want people thinking that you need a lot of equipment to do home shots.

Otherwise .. true .. landscape is a nice challenge !

I know what you mean... My "ghetto studio" consists of one $10 floodlight, a piece of foam (from a box), a piece of foil (from the kitchen) and a sheet of black paper. Oh, and a camera. I've already produced two very nice images from it though, and look forward to a challenge that can be done indoors.

Your negative space challenge is great and I gave your four entry one of my top scores (and funnily enough made a comment that you "know your stuff and have good equipment" - so you fooled me).

Welll ... the s30 is a good equipment :-) in the 450$ price :-)
Landscape that was really quite a lot to vote .... almost too much !!! I am personnaly not done yet !
Yeah .. I was proud of runner ;-) ;-)

Some of the factors which make a landscape shot (for me):

Sharpness. This also includes making sure that you get good foreground focus and not just focus on the distance mountains.

Light. All about time of day or atmospheric conditions, really. Although I understand you can't always be somewhere special at the perfect time. I had this problem with my own shot: I was there at a time of day where lighting was NOT optimal.

Composition/framing. How much care did the photographer use to put the elements in the picture in such a way that it is the most pleasing, as opposed to random-looking or busy or distracting.

That said, there are some great shots in there. Still not done voting though :)
