I entered the Vanishing Point challenge and it was my first entry. I had several comments from voters and all of them were helpful. I have tried to take all comments into consideration and apply them as I learn. I wanted to post my original entry and the same photo after applying the comments that was left for me. What I would of liked to know, would I have scored higher with the new photo. Please comment and let me know you opinion. If you voted let me know if your vote would have been different if I would of summated the newer photo. I thank all in advance; this is to help me learn.
The original was criticised for it's size, you have corrected that and it is much better, I would certainly have given a better score for this,
There will be critics who won't like it being dead center but I kinda like it that way, could have been better colours, ie more saturated but you have some lens flare there and that has thrown the colours off some (maybe a different time of day).a touch more sharpening and you have a good image. JMHO

I feel the colors on the edited one are a bit too red, and the balance is a bit too much towards the darks. But the size change in itself is a big improvement. Cheers!
I didn't get to vote on enough of the entries so my vote didn't count. I think 'vanishing point' shots are alot better when the photo is of the vanishing point. I don't think you are incorrect or a bad photographer because you have a unique technique. But I think as with alot of shots from that particular challenge, the shots were more of the object vanishing than the vanishing point itself. So, for entering a shot that actually had a vanishing point, it was a 5. The fact that it actually vanished in the photo as opposed to off the side of the photo moved it up to 6. Keep it up:)
I agree that it got knocked for it's size. My first entry was 'Feet' and I got several comments saying that they would have voted better if it had been bigger.

I didn't have a chance to vote, but I really like the composition. Excellent for the challenge. The white balance being a bit blue/magenta is a bit distracting to me. I'm thinking that in black and white it would be very dramatic. Anyway, quite nice! Definitely when a photo is small, it will hurt you in the voting - the second version is much easier to critique.
I'm no expert on what it takes to get good vote scores around here, but here are my observations on these pics:
1) The first one was too small. To do well, you need to make your picture the same size as everyone else's. I think you adressed that pretty well in the re-mix.
2) You can't go too cliche with the challenge, here. This challenge was an obvious match with RR tracks. As a result, you've gotta skip them if you want a top score. At DPC, obvious=bad; obscure=maybe good.
3) I like the colors better in the first pic.
