Shooting a rodeo yesterday with a new battery pack and semi new sigma 70-200 f2.8 on a Nikon D90 and right slap dap in the middle of bareback riding (was shooting at F6.3 iso400, shutter 600 ish) I get the F- - - message... so I rotate my f stop dial... no go.. again.. no go third time ok... BUT this keeps on happening, I take off and put back on my lense.... Fix's it for a while...
BUT then, out of the blue I click her and the viewfinder goes black, and on the top an error message appears, I can not turn the camera off or on.. shake it, take lense off... Take batterys out... then it turns on again... Few more shots Black view finder again... turn the camera upside down hear a click and you can see and it's not locked up again... BUT later AGAIN Err message, black view finder, can not turn off nor on... take out both batteries, leave one out... It comes back on and is good the rest of the night....
I've had the F message before and think thats a miscommucation between lense and camera... BUT All this at once and the BLACK view and not being able to turn the camera off????
Anyone Suggestions??????
( I was shooting CLH) when it first happened but later in the night just one shot at a time with same result.
Does it happen with any other lens, have you tried a different card. In the middle of a wedding shoot I had mine lock up, scrambled to figure out what was going on, right before grabbing a back up camera I changed the SD card and it started working and never acted up again.
I have had it do the F--- with other lenses once in a while.. and YES Nikon Glass.. The black out never. However I just found something on the internet about turning the manual focus while in AF mode.. and being a fairly new lense and shooting some FAST action cowboy rough stock I do Remember once grabbing the wrong place and getting the focus ring instead of the zoom ring... Odd though that it never fouled up after I took one battery out of the battery pack...
