It has been in Canada for a while. For my grandfather's christmas present one of the things he got was stamps with his face on it. (He is a long time stamp collector)
It does not look like a logo to me - it looks like some sort of code to go along with a serial number down the side. I could be wrong, but I don't think they would make a dot-matrix looking logo when they obviously have the ability to print high-resolution graphics.
The stamps are pretty big - 1.8" x 1.4", over three times the surface area of a regular stamp, so there is still a pretty good area for a custom photo.
Pretty expensive for stamps, but would be a great stocking stuffer for my mom or a splurge for our Christmas cards this year.

So - along with their company logo, the bar code, the number stored in the bar code, and the country and denomination, about 1/3rd of the stamp looks pretty ugly.

I've walked through the little builder program and previewed the stamp as it would look - I really don't think the barcode-serial number-stamp value thing is that bad, at least not to the degree you dislike it. I am probably still going to splurge on a few for some of our Christmas cards, probaly two sheets or so.
