I think i went overboard with this cross-process thingy everyone has been using influenced by instagram! At first I liked it too, but I am toning it down again.
ETA: I do have closeups, still have to go through a whole lot of pictures. And also few of my favorite kiss shots, but unfortunately they prefer to not share those!
I think all the comments thus far are right on. In general, unless the location is spectacular, you want to get in closer. Also, try to avoid shooting in direct light because the contrast is just too great and you get inky shadows and blown out highlights - unless you have either a reflector or a flash for fill. I have one suggestion: add a bit of vignetting, to bring the eyes right to them. Can do it with all, but a good example is #4. It doesn't have to be obvious that there's a vignette. If you have Nik Color Effex, you just use lighten center/darken edges and put the center point on them. Works better than most vignette tools.
