Hey everyone,

I've been using this " Pro Photo " Colour space in Photoshop lately because I find it makes the images look a lot more vibrant when editing. I don't normally print a lot of my work, but lately i've been having the urge to and people have been asking to purchase some of my landscapes. I don't know to much about printing really, but i'm getting worried that when I go to print, the prints will look horrible. The print service I use says that I should be using the Adobe 1998 colour space because thats what they use for printing. Do I have to re-edit all of my images in order to print them or can I just bump up the saturation and be ok? i'm assuming that when I print these images they will end up being desaturated as that seems to be the case whenever I don't use the proper colour space...

find a print service that uses pro photo.

whcc for instance will handle whatever color space you embed. when you sign up you send test images they print for free to see how they match up.

im sure they aren't the only one, they just happen to be what i use.

You can also convert to the color space used by the printer. Colors that are in-gamut in ProPhoto RGB may not be in-gamut in other color spaces, so there may be perceptible changes... or there may not.
The bottom line is that no printer on earth is capable of reproducing all the tones in ProPhoto RGB, so it will have to be converted by the print house, if not by you.

Depends on the capability of the output device. If the printer is calibrated for Pro Photo, then it should print as you expect. However, if not, you'll experience clipping.


I've actually gone from AdobeRGB to sRGB on my printing. Mostly, the results are more of an exact match to my computer display when I use sRGB with the output device. That doesn't mean there isn't potential out there to do better, but it's costly, in terms of time and money, to get a bad color reproduction.
