Wouldn't it be cool if we had a one hour challenge, where everyone visting the site at that time has one hour too do there best photographing something. It would be cool to see some of the pictures that would turn up. And I also agree on having more challenges every week.
However, with the exception of occasional speed challenges, I actually disagree with the "more challenges each week" vote. Too much to vote on. Also, I like it that EVERYONE competes together ... rather than breaking the whole into little subgroups of people competing on many different challenges.
I was soooo pissed when The Ultimate Fighting Championships broke everything down into weight classes. Got boring after that. (added stat for those who don't care .... 3 out of the first 4 UFC's were won by a guy who only weighed 176 pounds ... he beat the snot out of MUCH bigger guys ... score one for us short guys :)
The problem with a 1 hour challenge is DPC is a worldwide site in many different timezones.
Not to mention those of use who don't work the 'standard' 9 to 5.

Not to mention that there would not be any time to overanalyze the challenge topic....in fact it would be annouced and the 1 hour would be over before all the questions would be answered and only one picture will have been entered and that photographer would win all three ribbons.
It would be fun to see what developed (pun intended) though, wouldn't it.
No reason you couldn't do something like a 'do-it-yourself' challenge... like post in the forum with a specific start and end time and have folks post their entries in that thread. It's not like you'd have to worry about people seeing entries on a speed challenge like that 'cause they'd be too busy snapping, editing, uploading, chewing their fingernails, etc.

Great idea, Digistoune! Not that I'd be able to come up with something very creative in an hour, but I might wind up taking more pictures, and slowly learning how to take better ones. It'd be good for folks like me who are new to Photography as Art, without the "shame" of permanently listed low scores. Of course, if a pic gets the text version of pistol whipped, there's still a bit of a bump in the ego involved. But post topics eventually disappear from the main page, so it's not so bad...
yes, all of this is true, but!; you could have a set-up like this: For one hour every week the ONE-HOUR CHALLENGE will be turned on with out warning! It could be 7:00 pm or 7:00 am; AND THAT WOULD GIVE EVERYONE in the world a chance to play, But first warn people an hour in advance to get ready, then tell them the challenge.It would fun to see what people can create in 2 hours.
But Sparky! that would be a 2 hour challenge. You'd have to do the advance announcement and THEN at the official start time, announce the theme of the challenge.
Fun idea. Who cares if only a few people are able to participate in each one. Rotate the hours and eveyone would be able to enter at one time or another. I don't think we'd even need advance warning. Maybe a flashing red light to let everyone know when one is announced.
My vote for changing the 48hr "speed challenge" to 24hr SPEED challenge and it would be announced a week prior it happens, but not the theme of it. It should be once a month, maybe in the first week of the month. Then people have more to be excited about, always knowing when it's coming and nobody would miss it.
It's a great idea - could be staggered across time zones each challenge.
Even if it was alerted that it's on its way, as long as the theme was announced 1 hour in advance it would still be a 1hr challenge. Also - voting should be done and dusted within 24 hours to save clutter!
I thought about the server space required for this. It might take up a bit, so maybe just keep the top ten of each one after it's finished. So even if we did ten a week, it wouldn't take up as much space as one regular challenge. Not that I expect ten a week.
