I still think it would be nice to see something different. It seems to me that something different scores low. Spring Challenge - case in point. The amount of flowers on the first 2 pages made me ill, even though they were technically shot well. That's why everyone is having so much fun with the " jmritz " Challenge- everyone gets to work outside their comfort zone. I'm new to this site ( 14 challenges), so if I'm out of line, just tell me so. I'm also new to photography and this site has done nothing but improve my photography, so I'm not knocking DPChallenge. Everyone on the site has been nothing but helpful.
Outside of the ordinary is always good! But so is the occasional lesson in how to shoot a good bug, or a good blade of grass. We can all work on our techniques - some are newer at the game than others, too. So yeah, we may have seen bugs and plants before, but it's all good. Enjoy the view!
A good photograph should be both, 'different' as well as shot with good composition, focus, colour etc.... But usually both these atributes are not seen together. In such cases i find that 'different' images usually get lesser score than they deserve. Green macro will throw up some superbly shot stereotypes, but can they they distinguish themselves with a wiff of novelty? Lets hope so....
In the triumvirate of DPC cliches that often get mentioned - Insect Macros - Water drops - Wine glasses- i actually really enjoy insect macros a lot. I love insects so that helps. Never seen a boring insect. I also really like a lot of the water drops as well. I admire the kind of zen-like patience that those photographers use to get the images and the endless patterns and zen like physics that appear.
I hate wine glass shots though. Those things should be drunk out of not photographed.
So, does "green as your primary color" mean the subject should be predominantly green, or could the frame be predominantly green (i.e. the background) with a complimentary, non-green, subject?
It makes me green thinking about all the bugs, wine glasses, and water drops I'm going to see. And yet again, it makes me green ( with envy ) thinking of all these good technical photos that I, as a mere mortal, am not yet capable of shooting.
Almost came out of retirement for this challenge because I love shooting jumping spiders which have wonderfully irridescent green jaws. Of course I had seen two large ones the day before I noticed the challenge and now I can't find one to save my life... :(

I'm so glad!! Because your jumping spiders are awesome and we wouldn't have stood a chance...
Every time I try to get a macro, the littlest wind throws off my focus.
With the widespread adoption of wind turbines as electric generators, I'm thinking of starting a business where the wind farm can call me in case of persistent still air -- I'll be there within two hours and take off my lens cap ... ;-)
That was the most agonizing submission to date! In the end, I chose the one not that I liked best, but that I thought would be the most interesting.
The one I rejected had water drops, green bugs, pentacle shaped leaves, spiders with green teeth, and they were all dancing in a wine glass. It was awesomeness personified in a macro.
So you can only imagine how cool the other one must be! Looking forward to your votes!
