So far just about everything that I have learned on photoshop I have learned myself. (and that really isn't that much) I have come to the point where I need some "training". The other day on DPC I heard NAPP mentioned. So has anyone used this service and is it worth the $99.00 for a year subscription..or $179 for a 2 year. Are the tutorials helpful and would this be a great learning tool for a novice like me....
I'm pretty sure if you're a novice then you could get a lot of mileage out of the free tutorial videos on youtube, or on adobe's website.
Personally i'd hold onto my $100 - in my experience, this sort of thing can go over your head pretty fast if you don't have a solid foundation.
Adam...I've had NAPP...and I've let the subscription go (bear in mind that I have PS Elements so alot of what they have/had didn't apply to me...that being said...)I just didn't feel that I got enough out of that subscription to justify paying for another one, and PhotoShop Magazine is so full of adds and not near enough information IMO...
I have a subscription to Elements and let me tell you that is worth it's weight in gold and I won't let that subscription laps for sure!!! I will second the YouTube searches...that is where I've been finding alot of good instructions to go back to over and over and it's FREE...

Agree with this. You should try your best to find the free stuff, or, rather than investing in a subscription with that money, try to find a good class nearby.
The best thing I ever did was go to Scott Kelby's "Light it, Shoot it, Retouch it" live show, and learning directly from him was a blast. Of course, there were all sorts of NAPP members there, but I have a much easier time learning face to face than online.
Stick to Chris Orwig to start and move onto Deke when ready. very very good stuff - they took me from "oh i know a lil photoshop" to "god damnit i know nothing", which is a damn good thing in my book.

I started learning Photoshop when I bought my camera. Whenever I need to know how to do something I just google it. Between that and trying out different tutorials, you just kind of pick it up yourself...

Browse through and watch all the free videos that you can if you want to test drive before getting a very reasonably priced subscription. I think the CS6 new features is still on there for free, as well as random videos in many courses. I got to watch the Essential Training by Michael Ninness and it was great - completely changed the way I see and use the program.
Of course, Chris Orwig has great tips and Deke is a master.
Searching on youtube is about as easy as asking and getting tips from random strangers. It's definitely hit or miss.

have you tried just buying a book. im sure there are textbook styled photohop books that will walk you through the basics.
I'm sure you all know that Scott Kelby and NAPP are linked hand and hand. He is the lead guy at NAPP and Adobe is tied tightly with NAPP. The annual Photoshop World is put on by NAPP and supported by Adobe. If you attend PSW then you get a membership for a year. With that said you can get most of what is on NAPP seperarly and belonging to NAPP does not give you all of what is a available without extra cost.
