I was watching a guest take pictures at their relatives wedding. He had a 1D series body (Not sure which one but it looked new) and a 50mm 1.2 or 85mm 1.2 on the body. He had a bag that was full of other lenses (I got a glimpse of the inside on my way out of the chapel). He shot everything with that one focal length. He walked around, in front of people...everywhere except onto the stage (Thank God).
I don't know why he would have shot with a prime lens. But it got me thinking...what if I could only shoot with a prime lens? What focal length would I choose knowing that I had to shoot everything from portraits, to the group shots, the ceremony etc. I was thinking a 200mm prime in order to keep my distance, but then thought 'I'd really have to backup to get those group shots'. Not sure what I would do. 24mm to 35mm seems a bit too wide for everything, but I guess you could make it work.
So what prime would you choose to shoot an entire wedding if that were the scenario? |
