This shot was probably my favorite of the month, but I just kept thinking that I needed to be lower (not really possible), and that it felt a little awkward. But I love the shot. :)
I had the great fortune of being able to photograph The Sun Ra Arkestra on April 29th. For those of you unaware, Sun Ra was one of the true giants of avant-garde jazz during the 20th century. His band The Arkestra swung harder and played looser than any band I heard in the last twenty years. His 'thing' was Space Music, the free form avant-garde music that he and so many great musicians that played in his band created. Sun Ra told us he was from Saturn...and after hearing him and his band and seeing them and their pagentry...you believed him.
Sunny has passed, but the band plays on. Alto sax master Marshall Allen and a few other disciples of Sun Ra continue the brave tradition of bringing Space Music to the world.
My entry in this months FS was chosen in haste as I quickly started editing images from the concert. After roll over, I had the opportunity to process more. And the outtakes are but a small sample of that set. Enjoy
I thought the outtake would do a lot better, but went with the image seen less often.

Your entry most much more interesting, the lines better and the composition more dramatic than the mundane sunrise/sunset shot you had as an outtake. I think you clearly made the correct choice.

A wonderful series Ma'am. I loved your entry but you could do no wrong with any of these...
I had a hard time deciding, so I turned to family and friends and DPC. paulbtlw helped me narrow down my choice of six to three, and told me which he thought was the best option. I presented the three to family and friends, and each one got two votes, so I went with Paul's suggestion. One of the other two will probably show up next January in the Best of 2012. I can't imaging I'll get anything better this year.
