We attended a beautiful wedding yesterday. The church was a large, very pretty venue with more natural light than is common. The reception was at a gorgeous ballroom about 20 minutes away. As we drove away from the church, I commented to my wife that I hoped they were planning outdoor portraits, as the light was beautiful. This was just after mid day (3:30 PM) so not normally prime time but there was a high, moderate overcast through which the sun was visible but diffused. The result was perfect light for portraiture, a rare mid-day occurrence.
Later, just prior to the start of the reception, I spoke to the photog in the hall, and asked whether they had done any outdoor shots. She got a pained look on her face, and told me that unfortunately they had not had time. The service had run 20 minutes over and the couple wanted specific shots at the reception venue, so by the time they got finished with the interior shots at the church, they had to pack it up and move to the reception hall. You could tell it just killed her that she couldn't take advantage of that light. And to put the "icing on the cake" both the bride and groom were incredibly photogenic! I really felt for the photog; it was obvious she knew her stuff and was doing a great job.
Ha-haa, well after scoping out the equipment she was using, she is doing pretty well, so I can't feel too sorry for her! 85/1.2L, 24-70/2.8, 24/1.4L II, 70-200/2.8L II, 5DII bodies...

Man! Don't you hate it when any old Tom, Dick, or Harry thinks they can grab a camera and call themselves a wedding photographer?!?
