So I'm looking to purchase a printer for a very limited role, which is printing receipts on site. Mainly, I'm concerned with keeping (and in this order) price relatively low (since I don't really care if the printing is exceptionally good, just gets the job done printing black), printing speed, portability, longevity of ink, and ease of use (as I'll not be the only one using it, and some of the folks are startlingly NOT tech-savvy.

Any suggestions?

I tried suggesting the gold plated one, but it's for a non-profit I work with, so they respectfully declined and then spoke ill of my extravagant desires.

I've worked on almost every printer on the market and know Hp's tend to be the most reliable "Laserjets" Lexmark comes in a close second Xerox Third and so on. This lexmark will support about 10 people with a normal load. You can load it on one computer and share it out if you are networked. Toner may seem expensive but you get far more pages out of a cartridge compaired to spending the money on ink in inkjets.

I agree that an inexpensive monochrome laser fits all the needs... with the exception of being larger and heavier than most inkjets. Look at models that have wireless connectivity. Makes it easy to set up, no cables except the power cord, but of course you need a wireless network. Which you'd probably want to have anyway if multiple computers need to access it.
