Well, we've been on vacation taking pictures and while I went to do something i left my camera with my wife. She put it in the stroller and a sippy cup had created a pool in the basket. Well, I'm sure you can use your imagination from this poIt. The camera was in about a cm of water in the batter grip side. The shutter is always on and the screen only shows when it's cleaning the sensor. Needless to say my heart is crying a bit. It wouldn't turn off at first, but seems to be slowly gaing back functionality. Has anyone fully recovered from minor water damage? I feel sick to my stomach, but not throwing up because I at least have insurance (thank goodness). I'm just not looking forward to going lthrought that whole process if I have to. Just needed some consoling from a crowd that would understand. BTW, I feel bad for my wife because she's blaming herself, but in reality I should have been a little more prepared and I and my bag on me. I'll keep staring at th cera hoping it will dry overnight...
If you can get some rice and a plastic bag, try sealing it up so that the rice will pull any remaining water out. I think once it dries out, you should be OK. Don't let it spoil your vacation. Just keep your fingers crossed and remember the important things in life! (Like the lovely lady who should not be blaming herself and the cargo in the stroller who uses the sippy cup, who is far more important than the camera!)
So smile, take in some sights, have a nice capuccino at an outdoor cafe. And let us know how the vacation in going other than the camera!

Haha, thanks Deb. We've been having a ball! I know, my sweet wife is awesome, she's really the sweetest person you'd ever meet. I just told her I loved her and for he not to worry about it ad to just have fun too. We did get insurance 3 months ago, but nervous about a claim this early...

I agree with Melethia about the rice. leave it in for a few days if you can .. my husband jumped in a lake with his iphone and left it in rice for a week and had no problems with it after .. good luck and we all feel for you .
Won't be back home until Sunday, but will place in rice as soon as possible. I thought of an interesting alternative while here on vacation though, we have tons of diapers so I just wrapped it in that for the night. Diapers are quite absorbant...

Seriously though, it takes a STRONG marriage to get through several of these incidents. Congrats to both of you. :) Hopefully it recovers.
If it's your 5D, it would be a good idea to separate the lens and body so that the moisture can get out of the body. If there are ports on the camera for electrical connections, like where a battery grip plugs in, open the rubber caps or remove the grip so that air can get there to dry the contacts.
Good luck with the drying out process. I hope that the diaper trick works. A little heat, like placing it in the sunlight with the lens off, will also help.
ETA, When you get it dried out, if the menus work, you may want to do a "full reset" to clear any glitches that may have been created in the computer by the incident.
After 5 hours in the diaper or so, shutter still stuck, I think that's the only issue. It's starting to get light outside so I'm putting it in the window sill with all compartment open and tilted back 45 degrees. It it was placed on its side with the shutter and cf card sude down in the water and the top acreen taking in some water. In eondering how to best tip it while drying. I saw a video online where the poured isopropyl in the battery compartment and it drained out the shutter, I don't know whod do this voluntarily, but they said to let it dry for a while so that gives me some hope. I also took the lens off and just put the cap on. Anyways, I'm going to leave it in the sill until late afternoon and see what happens. Still a bit disheartened after 5 hours and still apparently stuck.
Haha, my wife is seriously awesome. I could never be upset at her, she doesn't have a bad bone in her body and is simply too sweet.
I can't image how water would a use the shutter to stick unless its a an electronic issue. Give it a good week to dry out and reset the camera.
Good news update. So I couldn't get the pictures off the card (no external reader) because the shutter was stuck. I decided to blow dry warm air on the shutter button and in the batter socket. Well, the shutter goes for about five clicks and them now stops! This now allows me to save my pictures yay! The shutter goes off with the slightest touch now, but that's an improvement an gIves me hope it will work out fine.
Things are looking up! The shutter is no longer always on! I was able to get all the pictures off fine, the screen is fine, focus and metering are fine, the only thing is that the top LCD appears to have some water marks but all the ink images appear normal and the orange light is a little touchy still. My heart is starting to repair!
Keep it warm, and let it continue to dry with the lens off and the diaper on for the next couple of nights to get the last of the moisture out.
That's good news that it's back in good working order.
