Every challenge most of us face the dilemma of choosing just one entry to submit. So lets hear the process from the funny to the mundane and bizarre!
I narrowed my selection down to my two favourites and then went the old fashioned way... I asked my mum which one she liked best, mums always seems to know best!
Normally for a challenge I'll come up with an idea and stick to it for the entire week and keep reshooting until I'm satisfied. I'll then gather up all the possible submissions, look at the lighting, sharpness, etc. and eliminate them one by one until I'm satisfied with one photo.
Although I haven't been doing that lately. The last time I did this process was for the Textures II challenge.
My experience so far has been that if I can't make up my mind between a few images, it doesn't mean I have lots of great images. It means that I don't have a strong enough image to stand out from the rest. My highest rated entries are the ones that stood out from the rest of the shoot and I didn't have to ask around to make the decision.
When I have to make a decision between a few images or different versions of the same image, I submit them and check them out on the website. Once I find too many things to bother me in an image, I delete it. So whatever is left after this process is the final submission.
Even after that I do have doubts.
I often don't have more than one image which I think is good enough to enter.
When I do I ask for input from non-dpc friends and very occasionally from one or two DPC friends only.
But I tend to do that only when I like two or more equally. If I like one better myself I enter that one even if I think another might be a more popular vote. I'd rather get the feedback on the one I like more than get a higher rank but not get feedback where I need it most.
